Zhongdong Wave Episode 8 - Persian Poetry Fri, 2013-12-06 13:56

Following on from the last episode, this one is an introduction to Persian poetry, which has a long and proud history and is very much alive in the region today. Jerry, Kaiyun and Yiming discuss their favourite poets, focussing on Hafiz, Sa’di, Rumi, Omar Khayyam, and Emran Salahi. For the second part of the show, we were lucky enough to interview Ms Narguess Farzad, who teaches Persian language and poetry at SOAS. She explains about Edward FitzGerald’s translation of Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat, the status of poetry in Iran today, as well as historical links between Persia and China.
