For World AIDS Day 2013, Boukje Boerstra of SOAS Radio joins Ken Shadlen, Reader in Development Studies at LSE and Ayaz Qureshi, teaching assistant at SOAS in the Department of Anthropology to discuss ‘The Political Economy of AIDS: Problematising the Structural Drivers of HIV Transmission.’ In this interview, Boerstra asks Qureshi about his work in Pakistan and the roles international aid and neoliberalism have played in the HIV sector. Additionally, Shadlen offers a look into his work on international property rights and the effects they have on the expansion of AIDS treatment in developing countries.
