The Cultural Turn in the War on Terror, Hugh Gusterson Wed, 2011-08-17 18:00

Hugh Gusterson is currently a professor of anthropology and sociology at George Mason University. On the 14th of June 2011, he came to SOAS to deliver a talk followed by a lively Q & A session entitled “The Cultural Turn in the War on Terror”. In his presentation he explored how the US military, in its attempt to ‘map the human terrain’, has come to ‘weaponise culture’ to address problems of culture as a ‘source of friction’ in the context of counter-insurgency.
