African Development Forum 2013: Panel 2 Mon, 2013-04-29 17:38

The second African Development Forum (ADF) took place on 16 April 2013 at SOAS. The student-run ADF 2013 was entitled ‘Africa’s Next Generation: A Bright Future?’ and attracted an audience of almost 300 people. Focussing on harnessing the potential of Africa?s young people for the continent’s development, the Forum consisted of two interactive panel discussions.

In Panel II the following speakers discussed opportunities and challenges for ?Innovating Africa’:

Mari?me Jamme ? Co-founder of Africa Gathering, founder of Spot1Mentoring and one of The Guardian’s Africa’s top women achievers.
Edward Watkiss ? Head of Operations at Farm Africa.
Farai Madzimbamuto – Senior Lecturer of Anaesthetics at the University of Zimbabwe, co-founder of Zimbabwe Health Training Support.

The discussion centered around the following questions:

Technology: Already pioneering in mobile technology, how can Africa do the same elsewhere?
Agriculture: How can farming attract Africa?s youth to compete with urbanisation?
Entrepreneurship: What is the role of young African women in business?
Education: How can schools and universities be innovated to match opportunities in Africa?
