Stop Making Sense Episode 31 Thu, 2010-11-18 17:20
Picture this: a Gauloise smoke filled studio, madera in a sharp suit with Brylcreme hair, a mixing desk the size of a small car with levers straight out of a Frankenstein movie, and thick vinyl slabs of hard bop on 33, OpenAir circa 1963, broadcasting to hipsters in Soho coffee bars, everything in grainy black and white.
Thats what came through my mind listening to JAY PHELPS today. See what picture it conjures up in your head… its the fourth track in on the show today. Nice!
Also on today, CYRUS GALBYSH & THE ZIZANIQUES, a Tom Waites for 2011… gonna be big. LAURA LOPEZ CASTRO’s Latino Arabesque delight, bitchin blues from SARA MITRA, Angolan pachanga from N’GOMA JAZZ, Brasilian ska from ORCHESTRA BRASILIEIRA DO MUSICA JAMAICANA, Mexican house mix by REBOLLEDO recorded live in Croatia 2010, and last but not least the breakbeat fest that is THE KASHMERE STAGE BAND and the killer jazz fusion of RICHARD EVANS & LINDA WILLIAMS. All in radiant technicolour.
