ASTRAL AFRICA ACTION
Alongside the usual myriad of genre busting musical nuggets, MADERA shows off his French skills interviewing JUPITER, rising star of the West African music scene. Fear not, non – Francophones, here is a loose translation of what was said? allez, salut maintenant!
MADERA: the four tracks on the promo ep are part of the new album?
MADERA: listening to the street sounds in the background, it appears you recorded this live?
J: yes but all mixed in the studio
M: do you prefer live or studio?
J: live is best, natural? studio is too “machine”
M: promoting live gigs in the Congo, on your website you show how you do it, using a van with speakers
J: we have to do what we can as we don’t have the resources you have e.g. on line + sponsoring + government subsidy.
M: how do you like your music. Pure or mixed?
J: pure is the past. We have to mix our music with Western and Eastern sounds
The name of our band, Okwess means “grub”, “food”
We are on a mission to change the worldwide perception of Congolese music.
Its all about mixing it up so everyone can eat it!
