Refugee Week 2011 - Sowing Seeds - Gardening and Cooking With A Refugee Community Tue, 2011-06-21 19:32

Sowing Seeds is an allotment initiative set up by the Refugee Council in Hounslow, whereby refugees in the area, unable to have an occupation, can spend some time growing their own plants, collaborating within a community and sharing recipes with each other on a regular basis.

Farida Stanikzai, the manager of the project, explains the objectives and benefits of the initiative. Emphasising that it is not just about growing food, but that many refugees suffer from social isolation, she highlights the importance of community interaction and creating a communal space in which all members feel welcome.
