Nuevo Colombia part 1

Cal Jader blasts through a veritable treasure trove of new music from Colombia. Tons of new fusions mashing Afro Colombia rhythms, Champeta, Currualao and Cumbia with rock, funk, hip hop and jazz. Self proclaimed “Marimba De Chonto” from 13 piece La Reveulta, plus more pacific coast Marimba sounds feature on the radical voices and beats of Tumbacadre and our good friend Jota Ramos from Cauca (check out a previous Movimientos podcast for an interview with Jota).

Bogota based Champeta from Makina Del Caribe and a track from Mr Champeta man himself – Lucas Silva (Palenque Palenque) on his Faroan Bantu project out on Berlin’s La Chusma records. Two songs from the Belgium based La Chiva Gantiva whose debut album out on Crammed Discs was produced by Sidestepper’s Richard Blair. Most intriguingly an amazing new project called Mucho Indio courtesy of Polen Records (they of Bomba Estereo fame) based on field recordings, Amazonian and indigenous melodies harnessed by producer Teto Ocampo (another Richard Blair connection). And an killer new Salsa joint taken from the new La-33 album! Special shout to Steen (Tio Chango), Bartolo Hoffman and Felipe Alvarez.
