AWIL - 305 - Juliana Yazbeck Tue, 2019-06-25 16:43

Goddess of soulful & sagely hip hop poetry, Juliana Yazbeck on this A World in London! Click here:

We were completely bowled over by singer, poet, musician Juliana Yazbeck and her debut album ‘Sungod’, on AWIL yesterday. Produced by El Jehaz from 47 Soul, Juliana’s CD heralds the arrival of a remarkably talented fresh young artist who is destined for great things. New Jersey born, Beirut-raised, and London-based Juliana, bridges her Arab roots and western experience, through multilingual and global vision, with lyrical eloquence that flows as beautifully as her vocals. She has an enchanting voice that glides seamlessly and perfectly through maqam-centred choruses, adding spoken word elements which are are perfectly timed, soulfully expressed, and lush with conscious lyrics. Juliana explores questions around identity and the diaspora, recalls being a six-year-old returning to war-wounded Lebanon, and speaks out about gender issues, displacement, racial inequality, war & peace, and universal love. Juliana is a much needed intruder in what’s essentially been a bloke-led Arab hip hop world so far, punching through glass ceilings as an intelligent and gifted challenger & messenger.

Catch our exclusive preview of ‘Sungod’ on this AWIL, and see Juliana Yazbeck live at Liverpool Arab Arts Festival on July 5th, and Shubbak Festival on July 14th at the National Theatre Riverstage in London!
