AWIL 291 - Diana Lwanga Mon, 2019-03-11 11:25
On Saturday Diana Lwanga will perform at Camden’s Green Note with the superlicious Seby Ntege band, but on this AWIL we heard her voice sweet & solo as she sang lullabies from her Luganda Nursery Rhymes CD.
Luganda is becoming a lost language in the Ugandan diaspora, and Diana is on a mission to preserve her melodious mother-tongue which lends itself perfectly to song. We know from a recent visit to AWIL by Languages Through Music founder, Desta Haile, that words have great power and learning a new language can be accelerated through verse, chorus, and imagery. There’s a number of London musicians that also recognise the importance of speaking with children through songs, a veritable musical MumsNet that includes talented artists like Eugenia Georgieva, Jyotsna Srikanth, and Daniela De Oshun. It takes a magnanimous heart to share knowledge beyond your own children and extend it as a gift to all, and Diana has that heart matched only by her golden voice.
