Outstanding griot soul from Mali?s Trio Da Kali on A World In London! We talked about the factors which had drawn them together to form the trio, their travels on this tour – taking them to Glasgow?s Celtic Connections, recording their debut album with the Kronos Quartet at World Circuit Records (set for release in 2017) – and their London gigs lined up at The British Library this weekend on January 22nd & 23rd. Trio Da Kali?s foundation is built upon sterling pedigree and the might of Mande tradition, with ngoni player Mamadou being the eldest son of international star Bassekou Kouyate, and Hawa the daughter of singing legend Kasse Mady Diabate. Balafon maestro Lassana Diabate has worked extensively with Toumani Diabate and the Afrocubism project. But what happens when a young griot doesn?t want to be a musician? And what happened when the full force & infinite beauty of Hawa?s vocals hit those mics at the end of the show? Find out, on this A World In London!
