A World in London 299 - Live Music Now Tue, 2019-05-07 11:43
The Yehudi Menuhin School is renowned for its world-class expertise in music tuition for gifted children, and named after its iconic founder.Yehudi Menuhin was innovative beyond classical music and one of his other lasting legacies is the charity Live Music Now. The idea came to him in a lightbulb moment back in 1977, when he realised that residential homes needed interactive music and penniless musicians needed work, so why not put the two together? The power of music as a communication tool is well known, especially when considering people with dementia, and what cuts through compromised memory. On this AWIL, inspirational Strategic Director & oboe queen, Nina Swann, explains more about the work of the charity in hospitals, Special Needs schools, and care homes for the elderly, outlining the benefits for musicians too, who gain regular employment, plus interpersonal skills & experience in a variety of settings outside of the standard live music circuit. It’s a win-win situation for everyone! Hear Nina’s exclusive selection of tracks from her talented roster of LMN artists, and on a separate note, remember to check out the debut chapbook, London Violins, by our wonderful in-house artist Alban Low, produced in conjunction with The Yehudi Menuhin school and A World in London!www.livemusicnow.org.
