A World in London 262 - Focus Africa Festival Tue, 2018-06-05 12:30

This week’s A World In London guest Atta Kouassi, of Focus Organisation, told us about the Focus Africa 2018 music festival, running at Rich Mix on June 2nd.

London-based Cote D’Ivoirean Atta has, for several years, been putting together music events that celebrate the massive range of music from the African diaspora, and he recounts how he is able to draw on the vast array of talent living and playing in our own city.  There are the usual problems, stemming  from fewer venues, visa difficulties, travel problems, but Atta has always succeeded in pulling it all together, as he has with this year’s Festival: two great bands from the UK/Zimbabwe (Farai & The Forest Dawn) and Burkina Faso (kora master Boubacar Kafando).

Sophie Darling and Norman Druker are on the desk this week, along with a pile of new CDs for preview.
