Click here: https://soasradio.org/music/episodes/a-world-in-london-241-mary-ann-kennedy Music fans will already be familiar with the broadcasting voice of Mary Ann Kennedy steering Roots music through BBC Scotland & Radio 3 with panache. We caught up with MAK in her musician persona as she was drawn away from her idyllic home near Ben Nevis down to Tuned In London’s HQ in smoggy Bermondsey for an intimate, sold-out gig last night. MAK is up for four MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards including Best Album Of The Year (An Dàn), Gaelic Singer of the Year, Community Project Of The Year (Tiree Songbook) and Media Category (Seirm). That album, An Dàn – a Gaelic word meaning ‘fate’ – is her premier solo outing showing off her talent for creating rich, lusciously layered melodies, combining her expertise on harp, keyboards, and guitar, topped with vocals of a higher & Highland nature. Another CD is on its way soon, offering more mountains of Gaelic goodness for a modern world, but meanwhile, hear MAK’s beautiful songs on this AWIL – such as ‘Seinn, Horo, Seinn’ (Sing with one voice), a call to look forward to new ideas while honouring the past as well as the delightful love song ‘Mise Fhuair’.
