A World in London 232 - Hanitra Fri, 2017-07-21 16:27
Malagasy singing icon Hanitra on this A World in London! Click here: https://soasradio.org/music/episodes/a-world-in-london-232-hanitra
It was a huge honour to welcome singer/songwriter Hanitra to AWIL and to be part of her debut performances in the UK. Hanitra is a legend in her native island of Madagascar with a career spanning four decades of heartfelt writing, composing, and performing. It’s her fellow people, particularly women, that she talks about in her lyrics, covering the challenges they face ranging from sexism to global warming and deforestation. Translator for Hanitra, was young Landy Rasam, a Malagasy student based in London, and she was utterly thrilled to meet Hanitra for the first time too! Listen in to this AWIL and get your hands on a copy of Hanitra’s latest ARC Music album – Lasa: Songs From Madagascar. Plus check out Hanitra as the sound ambassador for Schertler’s audio: http://www.schertler.com/en_IT/ambassadors?id=JONRIOQ8 Hanitra’s concert at Tuned In London on Wednesday was packed solid and you can still catch her at Bristol Folk House on July 21st.
This is our last AWIL at SOAS Radio before the Summer break. Have a wonderful holiday & thank you for listening! A huge thank you as well to Sofia Gaetani Morris, Sophie Darling, and Norman Druker, plus the SOAS Radio team. We’ll speak again in September!
