So lovely to welcome back Johnny Mooney to A World In London! We’ve known him until now as one half of the impressive dubby Asian fusion band Tiger Blossom which he set up with marvellous vocalist Ishrat Al-Mazi. On this occasion Johnny came to the studio to introduce his excellent new record label, No Wahala Sounds, which seals a glaring gap in the market for representing East African sounds. The first release by the label is gorgeous collection of vintage songs titled Kenya-Congo Connection and it’s on limited edition vinyl adding richness & authenticity to the rare gems you’ll hear on it. If you don’t have a record player to take you back to the future grab a CD version which also features the new album by Tiger Blossom called Zindagi. Johnny’s zest and passion for music is implicit throughout, and one thing you can be sure about with him is that he’s always up to something. Whatever that is, it’s always exceptionally good! Also on this AWIL, new albums by Cigdem Aslan, Terrakota, Ian Brennan’s latest Zomba Prison Project from Malawi, and an ARC Music collection of Peruvian folk, plus your essential Goin’ Global Gigs Guide with DJ Ritu & Adriana Rozario!
