A double helping this week, as Harvey Bruce chats to Linn Andrea Fuglseth from Trio Mediæval and jazz trumpeter Arve Henriksen before their joint performance in London; another great example of the myriad Norwegian collaboration projects. If this isn't enough for you, there's some hip hop from Sweden and Iceland, a track from Siri Nilsen's new album, and some music from The Sugarcubes.

YOU STAY BRASSY, MADERA

Its a bit of a horn-fest today on the STOP MAKING SENSE show. No real reason. Sometimes it just pans out that way... ok? Dont judge. As per the routine, MADERA drives a musical tent peg in one country, then gets a piece of musical string and connects it to another musical peg somewhere else in the world. Does that make sense? Music from the BEASTIE BOYS (MCA rip), BLOCKHEAD, CHAIRMEN OF THE BOARD, THE APPLES, GREGORY ISAAC, HACKNEY COLLIERY BAND, LATIN KINGS & the BOBAN I MARKO MARKOVIC ORKESTAR get the party started. Yes!

Very special guest in for todays show , Mr Jason Mayal of Smash records and Fuji Rock festival talking about the new album he has just produced and released - Narasirato, Warrato'o (The Sound of The Solomon islands) and also chatting about his expeditions to Colombia in the early nineties to discover the 'cumbia'

Pure Latino-Ska Reggae vibes on this episode as Cal Jader is joined by Abner Perez lead singer and songwriter of Ecuadorian-London band Reverso. Two major talents in the form of Sarah Gillespie and Gilad Atzmon came together on this A World In London. Sarah’s powerful lyrics and contagious ironic humour are delivered through her pristine & glorious jazz voice. Partnered by iconic composer Gilad Atzmon, a dash of Arabic strings, lashings of rock guitar, and oodles of eclecticism are added to her beat poetry in albums like ‘Stalking Juliet’ and ‘In The Current Climate’. While Gillespie’s acclaimed narrative, ‘War On Trevor’, recently showcased at Ronnie Scott’s, marks her out surely as the natural successor to Ian Dury!

Caipirinha Appreciation Society presenters MdC Suingue and Kika Serra have birthdays only two weeks apart and usually celebrate them jointly. Should our dear listeners wish to give the pair of us a little birthday treat, here's a suggestion: tell your friends, family, teachers, colleagues, flatmates, neighbours about your favourite cliché-free Brazilian music show.

After last weeks unfortunate unplanned hiatus, we are back, back, back with a thoughtful contemplative episode which stretches the format to the edges of acceptability. Along the way we discuss the stupid naming of stations on the Chicago subway, if “finding £20 in the street” is a satisfactory story for even the most banal of radio shows, how to make a flump, the joys of soft furnishings and Bath Moles is yet again name checked.

Pure musical selection all the way through Cal Jader starts with a couple of Latin themed Beastie Boys track as tribute to MCA. Brazilian future boogie remixo Ray Lugo's I Dream of Bahia, Sao Paulo soul from Criolo and Curumin, Latin jazz with Energie Du Verre and Jessica Lauren Four, plenty of Cumbia and Chicha mash ups with Bondi Blaster, Dengue Dengue!, New producer Swaggadrozo's epic contribution to the Sonoro Norte EP, a killer from Quantic's Los Miticos Del Ritmo album and another track from the Chicha Libre album, plus a great uptempo ska track from the Reverso album.

Studded with delicious nuggets and surprises, and steamed to perfection, Nordorama is back for another lap around the highways and byways of the Nordics. This week's playlist features a collaboration between Ane Brun and José González, jazz poetry in ancient Latin and some Swedish rock as suggested by listeners. The icing on this week's audiocake comes in the form of a track recorded on instruments made of ice in a soundproof igloo.

Immediately after the verdict, announced on the eve of Sierra Leone's 51st Independence Day, emotions ranged from excitement to disappointment, showing the complexity of the case.

HOME SPUN AND HAND KNITTED

MADERA meets podcast king, dj, and all round legend CRASH & BURN. They talk about growing up deep in the Amazon (in C & Bs case), a shared love of un-PC Exotica & obscure vinyl 45s, and why a Fela Kuti track can be a lifesaver during a long DJ set (in MADERA's case)...

The queen of Afro Beats Wunmi returns to the UK (her place of birth) for an energy filled journey of her life via Nigeria and the U.S. This is her last interview before her show at Mo Mo's and imminent deportation, only joking! (I mean departure) back to the United States. Wunmi is an artist with no labels, she designs her own clothes and has her own label. She has danced with Soul 2 Soul and choreographs her own shows, performing as a recording artist with some of the most prolific producers / artists which include Masters of Work of Work, Bugz in the Attic and T.Roy from Broadcite. Singer Carroll Thompson is a key pioneer & representative of Black British music. Quite rightly crowned as the Queen of Lovers Rock she has a perfect, rich, and soulful voice plus superlative song-writing skills. Her passion for music was ignited at home, caressed in London school and church choirs, and led to her debut single, ‘I’m So Sorry’ which topped the reggae charts in 1981. A series of accolades, albums, and awards followed as well as recording deals with majors like EMI and Virgin. She has worked with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, and many more. Hear her on this A World In London, check out her brilliant new album, ‘Feels So Good’, and see her live in concert alongside Janet Kay at The Islington Assembly Hall on May 11th!

Like everything in life the Caipirinha Appreciation Society show also appears to come in cycles. A couple of specific themed episodes are usually followed by a couple of random ones. Of course, the only constant being our selection of Brazilian music beyond the clichés, winter, spring, summer or fall.
