The Atlantic looms large in this episode - music coming from the slave trade routes of Africa, South America and the USA. Some of it direct, some via all sorts of routes like our harmonica blues man Erroll Linton who gives us London via the USA + Jamaica. There is an ode to love and tolerence From No Stranger Here, Krystle Warren and Lebanese composer Rabih Abou-Khalil to finish off the session with his Prayer for Tolerance.

Blues, jazz, electronica and dancefloor mayhem with thanks to Diabel Cissokho and Nuru Kane from Senegal, Mali's Terakaft. Plus a taste of acoustic Rio from Joyce and a peak at the new BBE compilation of suberb tracks from Perception and Today Records. If you missed the last Mwalimu Express - well, get it together and put the 18th of March in your diary - our destination is the DRC.

Don't forget... 7th March - Emel Mathlouthi gig at Rich Mix!

The Rita's got culcha episode. In the studio to tell me about a progressive new play called Zhe[noun] Undefined is Victoria, manager of Collective Artistes. Yes, it's all identity, gender, sexuality and crossroads. I should have brought in some Robert Johnson! Instead, I did bring in plenty of spankingly beautiful tunes, AMJ dub collective that are growing on me all the time, then kora from Guinea and Senegal. A great new voice of protest Emel Mathlouthi from Tunisa and loads more goodies. Until soon...

Tropical sounds to warm the feet and heart with Cumbia and Palenque from Colombia, Cuban nu skool. A couple of terrific reissues of hot Afrobeat from Benin and Nigeria and gorgeous new sounds from Finland's Lepisto and Lehti. I've also thrown in a few remixes of some of my current faves and that's this episode of Rita's World.

This episode of Rita's World is a snapshot of what I have been featuring, playing out, should have been playing out and listening to since I was last with you. There's vintage classics from Zimbabwean heavy weights including Thomas Mapfumo and the mighty oliver Mutukudzie and soon to be heavyweights like Mashasha. Nestling in there are essential new releases from Brazilian lucas Santtana and University of Gnawa ft Aziz Sahmaoui.

Jazz tinged New releases with Zara Mcfarlane and Aziz Sahmaoui rub along with deep recordihgs from World Routes (well done James Parkin who put together this epic compand unearthing a treasure trove!) Loads of new voices - including Pumajaw and a mauricio maestro's tasty reunion.

It's the end of August - with the Bank Holiday and Carnival, loads of carnaval inspired party music is what is featured on this episode of Rita's World. We dip into joints from Panama , Antilles, Haiti through to some reggae from that amazin JA and include some calypso from the irrepressible Lord Mouse and his Kalypso Kats coming at you from Germany via the US.

Wall to Wall LADIES this episode, new ones old ones nu roots, classic old skool from around the globe. These are a few of the ladies that I have loved and continue to love and play.

An aural looksee at some of the things I've been listening to which includes Brazilian including the new masterpeice by Maros Valle and a rare release from the 60's by Rubens Bassini, one of the most vital percussionists to come out of Brazil - the album explores the different rythms of Latin America. New sounds from Hossam Ramzy and lots of afrobeat from around the globe including Shuffering + Shmiling from the excellent Red Hot and Riot compilation.

Summer is here and it's a festival vibe featuring Baloji, Eliza Carthy, Banda Black Rio and De Lata.

Sounds of Summer, sun drenched and languid or firin' red hot , we all keep keeping on, smiling through the hardship ala Roland Tchakounte"s Soukous Blues and the stonking new release by East African Legend Samba Mapangala. Then there is the gritty down tempo defiance of Ghost poet and Burundi singer songwriter Steven SogoNdaje - I am Here!

This episode became a bit of a trip down memory lane featuring remixes of classics from way back then, plus brand new global excursions including Joe Claussells's 'Undeniable Love' from his magnificent Africa Caribe release on Fania, also pete Ardron's 'Orchid Star'. Just have a listen. I never really got into the original Braided Hair but the Rae + christian remix hits the spot for me and makes me twist and turn....There is some electro Swing and nu skool singer-songwriting offerings from Fatoumata and SMD - it's all over the place - in a good way
