Movimientos

Movimientos showcases an alternative view of Latin American music and culture and explores the depths of the London/UK Latin and global music scene. DJ Cal Jader brings the tunes with an across the board selection from folkloric roots & global fusions to Urban Latin and cutting edge electronic, with regular special features and interviews with the artists, bands, performers, filmmakers & cultural protagonists at the forefront of a diverse scene.

Movimientos runs regular Latin American cultural events combining music with documentary films, performance art and poetry. It also programmes the Latin section of Global Local - a festival project that seeks to support and showcase new & exciting artists.

Cal Jader welcomes Brooklyn based tropical producer / DJ Andy Gillis aka Uproot Andy in the studio for a run through some of his biggest productions and remixes and to talk about the New York latin scene and Colombian carnival amongst other things. Plus new and classic tunes from Brasil to Peru, Ecuador, the Caribbean and beyond.

A Lusophonic special, partly inspired by the new Space Echo psychedelic Cabo Verde compilation from Analog Africa and guest Portuguese musician Catarina Dos Santos who brings a selection of inspirations from Angola, Cabo Verde and Brazil plus some of her own music.

Cosmic Afro-Venezuelan vibes from Family Atlantica and La Gallera Social Club plus more new releases from M.A.K.U. Soundsystem, La Dame Blanche and ÀTTØØXXÁ. Plus tracks previewing forthcoming London shows from Karol Conka, La Chiva Gantiva and Sidestepper as well as a taster of the new Voodoo Love Orchestra album. Plus guest Chico Urbanus from the Sterns label joins us in the studio to play some Brazilian Hip Hop and talk about the new Criolo release.

Cal Jader runs through another edition of latin heat - this week with a strong Salsa and afro-latin beat featuring new tracks from Maite Hontele & La Mambanegra from Colombia, plus some old school Puerto Rican flavour from Cortijo y Su Combo and Roberto Roena plus a new Plena style 7" from Vampisoul. From Brazil another track from the new Nomade Orquestra album and a respin for Instituto track featuring Criolo.

Cal Jader introduces another edition of Movimientos joined by guest Carolina Nunes in the studio playing tracks from and discussing the forthcoming La Linea festival and talking new Brazilian music including Nomade Orquestra, Elza Soares and Sociedade Recreativa. The show also features upfront music from Thornato, Daymé Arocena, MAKU Soundsystem and ZZK's new Ecuadorian offshoot label Aya, as well as new releases from Venezuelan Afro-futurists La Gallera Social Club and something from the new Sonido Tropico compilation out of Sâo Paulo.

Cal Jader is back from Cuba with a mini mix of new Cuban Reggaeton and Timba plus upfront new music from Elza Soares, Bixiga 70 and Dayme Arocena as well as a brand new Fania Records remix by Jose Marquez and a Berimbau triplet by way of a tribute to influential Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelas.

Fania's Ralfi Pagan. Going to Colombia with new Systema Systema and Sidestepper, a re-recording of a Grupo Niche classic celebrating their 35th year anniversary, Toto La Momposina remixed by Dj Nirso and funky Marimba sounds from Herencia de Timbiqui meets Puerto Candelaria. And finishing with some digi-folklore sounds from Tribilin Sound and El Buho.

Going to Brazil with Spiritual South's remix of Friends From Rio and a touch of Amazonian Lambada with Felipe Cordeiro. And Salsa from Ola Fresca, Chocquibtown and a Fania classic from New Swing Sextet. Plus mellowing out at the end with new music from La Mecanica Popular, Rukaiya Russell (in Cuba) and ZZK Record's latest signing from Ecuador Nicola Cruz.

DJ Cal Jader hosts another bumper edition of fresh latin beats from across the spectrum. Starting with an Afro-Peruvian theme then connecting with Chile and some full powered Cumbia, then onto to Colombia including a classic from Joe Arroyo and more new Chocquibtown and finishing with a run down of some great new releases from Brazil including Tulipa Ruiz and Bixiga 70 amongst others.

A fresh selection of Latin musical treats for the new season! Hitting you with Cumbia from Chico Trujillo and the Kumbia Queers to Salsa from Edwin Bonilla and Eduardo Vals, Afro-Cuban influenced music from Eliane Correa's amazing new project and ÌFÉ from Puerto Rico. As well as new music from two of our favourite acts Metá Metá and Chocquibtown.

Cal Jader introduces another show bursting with pan-latin american / tropical goodness making connections from Cuba to Colombia to Peru to Argentina and Brazil. Featuring a track from the new Bomba Estereo album 'Amanecer', music from the Tiger's Milk compilation 'Peru Boom', a Morrocan twist to Thornato's remix of Chancha via Circuito and another track taken from the accompanying CD to the Sounds and Colours Peru book from La Mecanica Popular. And a mini Brazilian mix to finish the show including remixes from Aroop Roy and Spiritual South.

Ahead of the the big Summer Love Carnival party Cal is joined by Selecta Madmax to chew the fat and play some tropical bass, latin tinged dancehall-reggae and cumbia as well as a few of Max's own mash ups and edits, and some tracks from artists performing on the night Maga Bo and Fedzilla. There's also brand new music from Ecuadorian producer Nicola Cruz on ZZK, drum n bass Boogaloo from Barcelona by La Senora Tomasa, Brazil's O Quadro collaborating with Afrikan Boy and more from the new Uproot Andy EP Barrioteca. Sabroso!

Writer and journalist Nick MacWilliam joins Cal in the studio to discuss various projects including the new Alborada Magazine (which he co-edited) and the forthcoming Sounds and Colours Peru book and they play some Peruvian tunes from the accompanying CD. There's also music featured in the documentary films screening at the Cine Liberación event at Rich Mix on the 31st May including Hip Hop from Argentina and Venezuela, folk music from Honduras and Chile including some classic Victor Jara. At the top of the show there's also new tracks from Uproot Andy, Novalima and Toto La Momposina, as well as a Morroco-Latin electronic fusion track from Paraguay's Selector Chico.

Welcoming Rafael Morales one of the producers from modern Afro-Peruvian specialists Novalima into the studio to introduce some tracks from their new album 'Planetario' out in June 2015. Plus a little Peruvian focus featuring tracks from new artists like Kanaku y El Tigre and Elegante & La Imperial. Plus psych Latin soul from Chicano Batman, music from Colombia with an exclusive from Romperayo and another great tune from the Sidestepper album and Brazilian remixes of Sonzeira and Renata Rosa.

Host Cal Jader runs through another mix of latin beats and transnational tropical ritmos. With brand new music from the self styled bossamuffin sounds of Flavia Coelho, organic afro-colombian roots from Sidestepper, Mexican alternative pop from Cenavrvs and Cuban Jazz with Daymé Arocena. There's also a folklore digital excursion with Dengue Dengue Dengue and a Captain Planet remix of Los Folkloristas plus a special back catalogue triplet from Ana Tijoux to mark her big UK show.

There's also forthcoming releases from Flavia Coelho and Daymé Arocena as well as a little Colombian section with killer Salsa from La Mambanegra, Marimba funk from Haga Que Pasa, and psychedelic Afro-Colombian beats from Romperayo. Plus a nod to some of the acts performing at La Linea festival - running throughout April - with new Tango from Plaza Francia (2/3s of The Gotan Project) and a track from last years Jorge Drexler album Baila En La Cueva featuring Ana Tijoux.

The usual journey across the spectrum of latin alternative and tropical beats. An exclusive from Mexican Cumbia dons Sonido Gallo Negro plus brand new tracks from Argentinian genius Axel Krygier ahead of his new new album next month, Cuban singer Daymé Arocena and Bolivian legend Luzmilla remixed by Captain Planet. Alongside more music from Colombia, Venezuela plenty of Brazilian treats and another track from the imminent Fontanas album release.

Plus brand new music with from El Búho on a new label Frente Bolivariste, Latin Disco from Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel, more from the Fontanas album, Cumbia from Che Sudaka and Hammond Classics, Chilean Hip Hop beats from Latin Bitman and Venezuela represented by Tuki producers Pocz and Pacheko & a 70s re-issue with La Retrata Mayor.

Kicking off with some Mexican Cumbia Hip Hop from Toy Selectah and I.M.S's Compass project plus a brand new DJ Farrapo remix of the band The Fontanas out of the Movimientos stables. Plus plenty of Brazilian music with new releases Anelis Assumpção, Russo Passapusso, Moreno Veloso, and new Bahian artist Gabi Guedes. Cumbia from Mexico with Los Ángeles Azules' version of a Soda Stereo classic and from Peru with Elegante & La Imperial, Bareto, and an old school chicha gem from Los Titanes. A Cuba connection with Rukaiya Russell feat Gospel group Sextido and an Areito Records classic Ricardo Eddy Martinez.

For a special end of year show Cal Jader presents a rundown of some of the best Latin albums of the year with music from Cuba, Honduras, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, the UK and Europe amongst others. From roots to electronic beats and bass - the diverse Hip Hop styles of Ana Tijoux and Criolo to the big hitters like Calle 13 and Jorge Drexler. Plus music with a Caribbean lilt from Aurelio and plenty of Brazilian representation with Dona Onete, Russopasso and the Goma Loca project plus a track from the compilation of the year 'Kafundo Vol1'.
