Sport and Diplomacy

Professor Tom Zeiler of University of Colorado talked about issues of race in the sport of baseball, drawing upon his time in Japan as Fulbright professor and the example of Jackie Robinson. Professor Zeiler discussed ways in which sporting competition has assisted human societies in mediating estrangements, resolving conflict and sublimating competitive urges.
