Shared Sovereignty: Rights, Religion and the Problem of Authority

On October 20, 2011, a guest panel considered the ways in which sovereignty contend with competing claims to religious authority and human rights universals by drawing on the findings from two recently published books on religion and secularism: Rethinking Secularism and Religion and International Relations Theory. The panel consisted of Professor Jack Snyder of Columbia University, Dr. Jonathan VanAntwerpen of New York's Social Science Research Council, and Dr. Azza Karam of the United Nations Population Fund.
