Nobel Peace Prize 2011

During part I of this two-part special, we hear from Liberian women who attended the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway, where two of their own, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and peace activist Leymah Gbowee, were honored with Yemeni activist Tawakkol Karman on Dec. 10, 2011 for their women's rights advocacy.

Our presenter Robtel Pailey interviewed 2011 Nobel laureate Leymah Gbowee; Jenelle Sirleaf; Robin Sirleaf; Althea Sherman; Liberian Minister of Youth and Sports, Etmonia Tarpeh; P. Teeplah Reeves; and Peggy Varfley Meres. Liberian songstress, Miatta Fahnbulleh, who performed at the Peace Prize Ceremony and the annual Peace Prize Concert, is our featured musician.
