Endangered Languages Week 2011: London's Language Landscape
Nick and Sam, MA Linguistic students at SOAS, preview a handful of recordings made as part of London’s Language Landscape- a student project aimed at capturing a snapshot of the languages spoken at SOAS. They discuss how the recordings and much more will be part of an exhibition at the Brunei Suite on Thursday 12th May as part of Endangered Languages Week 2011. Thanks for your interest in our project. We appreciate your comments about the nature of language documentation. We also endeavour to make the discipline of documentary linguistics more practical and accessible to a wider audience. Based on the success of our pilot project in May 2011, we have created language-landscape.org - a website which allows people to upload their recordings and place them on a customised map. We would love to hear more about your documentation efforts in Addis Ababa and further afield and we hope you will become a contributor to the site.
